At KNS Window Fashion, we understand that installing your window covering can be quite a challenge. Window coverings can be viewed as a stressful or laborious task as you need to carefully measure and record the dimensions of your window. But with a little preparation, you can handle your window treatment project quickly and easily to enhance their look.

As experts in window coverings, we’ve created a handy checklist to keep in mind when fixing a window covering. With this checklist, we aim to reduce your stress as much as possible. Follow our checklist to install your window covering correctly so that you enjoy the ambiance and appearance of the room.

1. Get a toolkit
Keep a well-stocked toolbox ready to ensure the correct installation of your new window coverings. A tape measure, pencil, power drill or screwdriver, ladder, and fasteners are all required.

2. Check what’s inside the packaging
When you unpack the shades, you may notice a sticker on the headrail. This will indicate the size. Apart from this, ensure that the brackets, fasteners, and other components are included. Next, check if the blinds or shade fits the window exactly before mounting any hardware!

3. Mount the brackets
If your shades are designed to be mounted inside the window casings, mount the end brackets about three to four inches from the edges and space any remaining brackets evenly along the width of the window. Ensure that the brackets do not interfere with any portion of the shade that may deter the proper function of the shade. It is recommended that you mount these brackets at the front of the window opening. This will allow easy access to the controls and ensure that the shade clears any window obstructions such as window locks or cranks.

4. Drill the holes
If your shades are not inside-mounted, they can be mounted on the wall or the window casings. Again install the end brackets three to four inches from the edges and space any remaining brackets evenly along the width of the window. It is recommended that you hold the brackets on the window casing, mark the holes required, and pre-drill into the casings with a three by sixteen-inch drill to avoid cracking the casings. If mounting on the wall (above the window casing), you may have to use a spacer block to ensure the shade clears the window casing. These should be supplied with the shade or can be purchased from your vendor. Mark the required holes and pre-drill before mounting the brackets on the wall. You should use wall anchors on any drywall surface if the fasteners cannot bite into a wood surface. Again make sure that the brackets do not interfere with any portion of the shade that may deter the proper functionality of the shade.

5. Attach the shades
Once the brackets have been installed, attach the shade and ensure it is working adequately. Other hardware included, such as cord cleats or chain guards for safety, should be installed if supplied for excellent functioning of the treatment.
